No, it does NOT mean tone deaf!  The word “Karaoke” is a combination of the abbreviations of Japanese words:  “KARA” from “karappo”, which means empty, & “OKE”, the abbreviation of “okesutura”, meaning orchestra. 

So, karaoke really means empty orchestra!

Karaoke got its start in Japan.  A band failed to show up at a bar for a gig, so the owner put some music on and invited customers to come up and sing.

Karaoke can help children learn to read.  Hmm.  Karaoke is educational!

A song that gets stuck on repeat on your head is called an earworm.

A study conducted in 2015 revealed that babies remain calm twice as long when listening to music than they are when listening to talking.


One of the only activities that activates, stimulates and uses the entire brain is music.
